Sophie Hall is a young American writer who travels to the city of Verona with her fiancé, Victor, before their wedding. While Victor is busy looking for suppliers for their future restaurant, Sophie explores the city and discovers a very special tradition: thousands of people leave letters addressed to Juliet, the famous character from the love story of Romeo and Juliet.
One day, Sophie finds a letter hidden behind a wall. The letter was written fifty years earlier by a young English woman named Claire, who wrote that she had abandoned her great Italian love, Lorenzo Bartolini. Moved by the story, Sophie decides to reply to the letter.
To her surprise, Claire receives a reply and travels to Italy with her grandson Charlie to try and reunite with Lorenzo after so many years. Sophie joins them in their search. Together they travel to different Italian villages, visiting numerous men named Lorenzo Bartolini.
During the trip, Sophie and Charlie, who initially have a difficult relationship due to their personality differences, begin to get to know each other better. A romantic connection gradually develops between them. At the same time, Claire holds onto the hope of finding the man she loved in her youth.
Finally, after many searches and obstacles, Claire finds her true Lorenzo. Both discover that their feelings never disappeared and they have the opportunity to make up for lost time. Inspired by this love story, Sophie understands that she too must follow her heart. This leads her to rethink her relationship with Victor and make important decisions about her future and her true feelings for Charlie.
The film combines romance, comedy and Italian landscapes, conveying a message about second chances, true love and the importance of pursuing dreams.
